Sexual Orientation LIVE

Trainer-led course content

Course Summary

Sexual Orientation is a one-day programme aimed at employees at all levels and of any sexual orientation.  In it we enable delegates to reflect on attitudes to lesbian, gay and bisexual people, and on the misconceptions and prejudices that lead to discriminatory behaviour.  We discuss the value of encouraging respect between colleagues, and how to recognise and address inappropriate language and behaviour.  We do this through participative exercises, case studies, experiential learning and discussion, encouraging delegates to apply the lessons learned to their own workplace.

What you will learn

  • How organisations and individuals benefit when there is respect between people regardless of sexual orientation
  • To recognise and challenge homophobia, and prejudices and assumptions about LGB people
  • To recognise when LGB people are experiencing direct and indirect discrimination and harassment, and to challenge this
  • To recognise your own rights regarding sexual orientation
  • The basics of the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003

Relevant audiences will also be able to explore:

  • Recruiting the best person for the job regardless of sexual orientation
  • Ensuring that pay, terms and conditions, training, promotion, dismissal and provision of references are non-discriminatory on grounds of sexual orientation
