Skill Boosters video resources straight to the learner’s desktop
Skill Boosters, the award winning producers and publishers of media-based learning resources, have made their video courses available on-line with the launch of http://www.skillboosters.tv/. The learners experience exactly mirrors that of using the same video courses on DVD.
This new broadband TV service has been developed in response to direct requests from
Skill Boosters’ clients looking for a flexible and cost efficient medium to disseminate video based learning to everyone in their organisation, including international offices around the globe.
Skillboosters.tv makes use of months of research and development by its parent company ‘BDP Media Group’, into state of the art video streaming and Digital Rights Management techniques. Using Windows Media Player 9 or above (already resident on most Windows-based PC’s and freely available for download from the internet), skillboosters.tv delivers glitch-free video streams at near DVD to quality to any registered learner using a basic Windows-based PC with a standard 2Mbit broadband connection. This means that a learner at home connected to a basic broadband service such as the standard £17.99 per month BT package will get the same viewing experience as an office-based learner. The content is stored on servers around the world to facilitate efficient global use, e.g., a learner in New York will have the video served to them from a streaming server in Chicago, not London.
Skillboosters.tv brings huge benefits to organisations and their staff including:
• The Digital Rights Management software will allow managers to monitor exactly when learners accessed the resource and whether it was viewed in its entirety
• It enables managers and staff to learn anywhere; at home, at work or wherever they want to go online and whenever they want to go online.
• It allows trainers easier access, saving on time. No more having to book a VHS or DVD player!
• Subtitles are included in all the courses making them accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing AND making them accessible to users who are unable to play audio on their PCs.
• No internal hosting required / avoids technology barriers.
• Users will be also be able to access accompanying course information on the same site as the content; http://www.skillboosters.tv/, including downloadable trainer notes / self-study booklets.
• Training buyers will be able to sample online ‘taster video clips’ of new courses, at their convenience, at no cost, without any obligation to purchase.
Bryan De’Ath, Founder and Managing Director of the BDP Media Group (parent company of Skill Boosters), commented ” We continually listen to the requirements of our clients and learners, not only for the subject matter of future Skill Boosters resources but how, as organisations, they want to deliver learning to their personnel. We believe that http://www.skillboosters.tv/, combined with our corresponding e-learning, CD ROM, DVD, VHS and paper-based resources, provides our clients with the greatly enhanced flexibility and accountability they desire. Skillboosters.tv is the first of several exciting developments for Skill Boosters that we will be announcing in 2006”
