New training resource helps employers harness the potential of a diverse, more inclusive workplace.
Skill Boosters (part of The BDP Media Group), in association with Pearn Kandola, have launched a video training package entitled ‘The Diversity Challenge: maximising the potential of our diverse workforce’.
The UK workforce is more diverse than it has ever been with more women, ethnic minorities and disabled people employed than ever before. By 2011, white non-disabled men under the age of 40 will make up only 20% of the UK labour market*.
Attracting, selecting, retaining and promoting the most talented people is a challenge that all organisations face in order to be successful. A further challenge still for organisations is to create and maintain an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and where their talents are fully utilised. This requires their workforce to look at how they deal with each other, be open to feedback and to be prepared to change their behaviour where appropriate to ensure discrimination (both subtle and less subtle) is avoided. This is easier said than done!
This new training resource will help organisations rise to these challenges. Through its blend of engaging video dramatisations and documentaries, ‘The Diversity Challenge’:
• Gives an overview of why diversity is an important issue for every person in every organisation.
• Demonstrates how a ‘one size fits all’ approach simply does not work anymore and encourages viewers to understand the benefits of accommodating difference.
• Introduces the CREATE model – a set of guidelines for appropriate behaviour in a diverse workplace.
Professor Binna Kandola, Senior Partner of Pearn Kandola, a leading Occupational Psychology practice specialising in Diversity, Development and Assessment services, commented “Organisations need to think about whether they have the right policies in place in order for people of all kinds to be accepted, to flourish and to perform to the best of their capability. Ultimately though, it is down to all of us as individuals to be prepared to be open to new influences, to challenge behaviour we feel is inappropriate and to be prepared to listen when we are the ones being challenged. This new DVD/VHS resource and accompanying trainer’s notes/self-study guide shows what we need to do in order to create organisations which not only enable people to be treated equally and with respect, but that also succeed.”
