Challenging Behaviour: Dealing with bullying and harassment in the workplace LIVE
Trainer-led course content
The biggest cause of sickness absence in the UK is stress, and in more than 30% of stress cases workplace bullying is a key factor. It contributes to the loss of 18 million working days each year. Another key contributor to stress is harassment; it can be related to sex, race, ethnic background, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, aged or any other personal characteristic. These negative behaviours cause great unhappiness in the workplace. Targeted individuals become isolated, depressed and often ill, morale declines, performance drops, and the organisation's reputation suffers. However in organisations which take steps to eliminate bullying and harassment an ethos of respect and dignity emerges, benefiting both the workforce and the organisation.
Course summary
A one-day programme for employees at all levels. The course uses our renowned drama scenarios, participative exercises, case studies, experiential learning and discussion to explore the themes of bullying and harassment in the workplace. We examine the provisions of legislation outlawing harassment on grounds of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, and religion and belief, and discuss what constitutes inappropriate behaviour. We look at the attitudes, prejudices and beliefs that lead to inappropriate behaviour, and learn how it affects victims, their colleagues and the organisation. We also discuss how to challenge and manage harassment and bullying, and engender a culture of dignity and respect in the workplace.
